Across nations, people have built communities surrounding bodies of water. Where there’s a river, a spring, a lake – there’s undoubtedly a village living near it. Central to everyday human endeavor, these had served to be meaningful places where people fetch their water from so they may continue to cook, wash clothes, build homes and sustain livelihoods (usually farming and fishing), among other basic human needs.
Art in Lake is a project that holds this essence both in the figurative and the literal. Art in the Lake opens a month before the national elections and runs until a week after it (April 10-May 17). Hence, the event is a big opportunity to initiate dialogues and communicate creatively how artists can take a stand in choosing the right leaders for our nation. There are 9 groups of artists-- Biskeg, Bakuna.Wa, Sangviaje, Santelmo, SiLab, SAKA, Pagtawag Sang Kasanag, Alitaptap, Neo-Angono-- working on lanterns for the parade and 30+ individual artists showing their personal works in the gallery.
