This exhibition explores how the general atmosphere of a place can interact with an individual's naturally flowing, artistic stream of thought. It is where a subverted form of psychogeography allows us to detach and alienate ourselves in the rural instead, and embrace the powerful connection that it weaves within the inner structures of our being. This collection of works narrates the adaptive capabilities of the creative mind and demonstrates how migration and displacement could create a unique, powerful feeling during the instance of creation.
All the artists in this show are currently residing in La Union, a place bursting with life, and are almost like a magnet for migrants in search of a calm change of scenery. This is not surprising because apart from the stunning natural sites and heritage attractions, this province also has a rich historical background. For instance, it had great strategic significance for both the allied and Japanese forces during The Second World War, causing it to become an active battlefield during The Battle of Bacsil Ridge and the Liberation of Bauang. With all these factors considered, this show traverses how the cultural and geographical landscape of the province interacts and influences the artist's sense of place and self-identity.
