For the fourth solo show of Tyrone Dave Espinosa, he uses materials that are familiar to him and techniques that he is distinguished for. Kalupkop exposes the layers of Filipino culture: established by our ancestors, influenced by other countries, and strengthened by our character and choices today. The exhibition culminates, as it also combines, medium and method within the exploration of one’s identity and community. Each layer beyond the bark of wood is independent of its purpose but when put together produces an even more distinct reflection of its origin and composition—who is and what makes a Filipino.
