Mac-J G. Turla (b. 1994), a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting graduate from Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) in 2018. He is an artist residing in Tondo, Manila.
He is known to use death colors and destructed looking designs using various methods which result to aged and old-like paintings. It all started in January 1, 2016, there was a fire from the neighborhood that spread in a blink of an eye and his metal sculpture was burnt together with the house itself. However, the sculpture turned out to be surprisingly oddly more beautiful than it is before. That was something that inspired him to use the colors of destruction. Since then, he’s been exploring such colors, style, and methods that applies to achieve the look of destruction. Using different medium such as oil, acrylic, collage, installing metals, and burnt frames helped him to build the story and pass it along.
His paintings depict the story of his own and people around him. He values the stories behind the artworks and he believes that “story is what makes the artwork valuable”.
