It used to be that the definition of reality was limited to the physical existence of things; only those, which we can experience with our five senses (taste, sight, touch, smell, and sound) were regarded as real. Thus, we are always left wondering: what actually constitutes reality?
We live in an era where the veracity of things are always under scrutiny and question. The lives we lead are now residing in different platforms, most notably in the physical and the virtual realm. Majority of our interaction is done through social media---where people exist in colored chat boxes; where emotional responses are reduced to stickers or sometimes, emojis. The relationship we have with our peers inside the digital realm can sometimes be more intimate than the physical ones we hold. Or do they? Hence, this dilemma of understanding reality versus the imaginary and everything else, which cannot be concretized by mere physical manifestations, had piqued the interest of the four artists presented in this show.
The works of Aldron Anchiges, Archien Ruga, Macj Turla, and Edwin Martinez bring our attention to an apparent and yet unnoticed dilemma---how do we check what is real and unreal? Is it even important?
