In Skins, Andres Catig shares a surreal lens that conveys a raw, unfiltered portrayal of how he perceives the world and the people around him. His paintings blend the grotesque and the whimsical, visualizing the decay and corruption of the human form through a vivid narrative that dives deep into his own personal experiences. Growing up with eczema, Catig was strictly confined indoors by his parents to protect him from harm and social stigma. This prolonged seclusion gave him a unique perspective on the world, intensifying his feelings of being different and out of place. This deep sense of alienation may have been an integral driving force in his creative identity as an artist, where his body of work has always dealt with eerie, psychedelic deformations of the human visage. His paintings are often infested by skittish, anxious creatures that seem to wear colored flesh that rejects the laws of physics and physiology alike.
