Jeanroll Ejar
January 12 to February 23, 2025
Ejar's sculptures are inspired by the "sawali" or "amakan," rigid mats made of woven bamboo strips that are commonly used as walls, partitions, or panelling in the homes of rural and informal settler families across the Philippines. These woven bamboo walls, sturdy but vulnerable to the forces of nature, are often patched up with whatever materials are readily available–cardboard boxes, pieces of plywood, corrugated iron sheets–serving not just just as barriers against the elements, but as repositories of everyday life.
